Account Manager

Reports to: Account Director

Key relationships: Clients, Client Services, Creative Team, Finance, Suppliers and External Partners

Overall role:

Commercially aware, demonstrating strong communication skills and the ability to multitask, the Account Manager works closely with the Account Director on the end-to-end process of delivering projects. Responsible for service and profitability targets, the Account Manager contributes to account growth. Taking a central role in the project team, they manage and co-ordinate to deliver on brief, on time and on budget, to the highest standard.


For Clients
The role of Account Manager is the bridge between the client and the agency, ensuring that the agency is meeting the client’s needs whilst keeping them informed on the progress of all projects. Clients expect that the Account Manager will:

  • Be trusted and accountable for the delivery of programmes and projects
  • Present themselves as the main point of contact for all project management matters on specific projects (time, brief and budget).
  • Provide proposals and estimates on project-by-project basis
  • Manage the agency interaction and team resources including checking, recording and managing the feedback and approval process, advising on potential scope creep or delivery impact in response
  • Report on project status, provide documentation, manage budgets and schedule
  • Demonstrate client and industry understanding

For Contagious
Responsible for reporting on the financials of named projects, our Account Managers are comfortable with numeracy whilst providing an impeccable service to our clients day-to-day and developing these relationships over time. Specifically, they:

  • Build and manage relationships, positioning themself as the primary interface between client and agency on projects
  • Gather and share client knowledge to support creative teams
  • With senior members of staff, create and manage project team
  • Generate project documentation (briefs, quotes, status reports etc)
  • Are efficiency focused - keeping projects on brief, time and budget
  • Work to identify account growth opportunities, sharing with Account Director to act on these

For Creative Team
The Account Manager is in regular contact with clients and in turn becomes their representative within the agency. This places the Account Manager in the position of enabling the creative team to deliver an informed solution to the brief that will delight clients. The Account Manager positions themselves with the creative team as:

  • ‘Surrogate client’ working in partnership with the creative team to help interpret the brief and deliver stand out creative work on time and budget
  • The go-to for help in clarifying, obtaining and developing the brief for best creative outcome

For Client Services
A strong team player, the Account Manager works independently on some accounts and supports Senior Account Managers and the Account Directors on others. The Account Manager:

  • Supports and assists the Account Director
  • Oversees and guides Account Executive to support the CS team
  • Curates and shares client specific information within the team

Skills and Experience

  • Professional manner and personality appropriate for client and team management
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with all stakeholders
  • Ability to successfully prioritise and manage multiple tasks and projects at any one time in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to remain positive and calm under pressure
  • Comfortable presenting work, leading meetings, discussing and sharing feedback
  • Capable of holding financial conversations with client
  • Willing and capable of learning about and developing client and industry knowledge


  • Experience in creative agency or client role
  • Proficient user of Microsoft and other software packages
  • A Business Management, Marketing or equivalent qualification or experience


  • Delivery of projects to a consistently high standard
  • Maintaining excellent agency and client relationships at all times
  • Accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Contributing on the delivery of projects to the value and profit margins defined in annual goal setting
  • Working towards the retention and growth of your clients
