Lind & Lime Gin
Port of Leith Distillery
Into the Limelight
The intention behind Lind & Lime Gin was twofold: to act as a stepping stone for Port of Leith Distillery to get closer to their dream of creating whisky, and to build awareness of the distillery while connecting it to the local area.
Our research took us back in time to explore the local businesses thriving during the 18th century. It was here we met Royal Navy surgeon and Edinburgh local Dr. James Lind, who saved countless lives around the world with his connection between citrus fruits and the prevention of scurvy. His legacy inspired the Lind & Lime name as well as the gin’s fresh and lively citrus notes.
Local history and geography are at the core of the Lind & Lime brand. The Port of Leith’s long-standing connection to the spirit trade is reflected in the bottle’s curves, which mirror the industrial glass kilns that once dotted the skyline on a ship’s approach to Edinburgh. Port of Leith Distillery has played a significant role in the area’s regeneration and the bottle’s base is embossed with “Leith Glass Works” – a stamp of local pride.
Port of Leith Distillery’s eco-conscious principles are prominent in every stage of the design. The post-consumer glass waste that we used for the bottle has an oceanic tint which complements the gin’s lime profile. The outer wrap is illustrated tissue paper – making Lind & Lime’s packaging 100% plastic free and recyclable.
The end result is a striking design fit for a lifestyle gin brand with history and local values at its centre.
With only organic marketing support, Lind & Lime exceeded all launch targets in record time and by the end of year one was being sold in eight key markets. The Q1 volume sales target was achieved in just two weeks and the three-year sales targets were smashed in just fourteen months.
