Oslo Håndverksdestilleri

Crafted tradition

Oslo Håndverksdestilleri was the first independent distillery to open in Oslo since 1927. We gave them a brand identity and packaging design that celebrated a close affinity with their homeland, their love of nature, and ancient tradition.

A natural passion

Oslo Håndverksdestilleri’s founders are passionately committed to bringing back local and independent distilling methods, using high quality artisanal spirits and natural, local ingredients. This inspired our design of the OHD ‘spirit and spice’ brand marque.

We fully developed the brand identity with the distillery’s first products: Marka, a traditional bitters and Vidda, their Norwegian-inspired gin. To highlight the provenance of the spirit range, we used traditionally influenced illustration to tell stories of locally grown botanicals and the Norwegian passion for foraging. The team’s passion for craft and nature is prominent throughout the range.

When it came to their Akevitt, a Scandinavian distilled spirit dating back to the 15th century, we reflected the important cultural connection between the drink and Scandinavian celebrations. To capture both the spirit of the location as well as the spirit within the bottle, we found inspiration at Oslo Pharmacy Museum for our stylised typography and illustrations that reference Nordic mythology.

The Oslo Håndverksdestilleri packaging and identity is unique and full of personality. As the distillery extends its range and expressions, its values of local craft, nature and tradition will always be at its heart. Their authentic storytelling will help them to connect with new audiences as their brand continues to grow.
